Greetings from the Mayor!
Welcome to The Singles - Season 1 from Kicksville, a 13-episode weekly release program meant to broaden the horizons of our current fans and pique the curiosity of those we have not yet reached. We believe that there is something in Kicksville for people of all musical tastes, so we included a very eclectic array of originals, as well as cover versions of some of our favorite songs by other artists. One interesting thing about the songs we compiled for Season 1 is that they span almost the entire existence of Kicksville, from the present back to our humble beginnings in a dark basement in 1998.
Kicksville is well-known for presenting the art of  Kicksville's citizens, especially the fantastically odd art of Tone Deaf, City Council member and Kicksville's resident artist. You can see Tone Deaf in action in our live show, but for Season 1 each single includes a unique cover created by nationally recognized illustrator Andy Ewen, a long-time Citizen, our Fireman, and generally nice guy.
We hope that you all enjoy the music and art of The Singles - Season 1 Collector's Edition. I know that the Commissioner, myself and the rest of the Citizens of Kicksville had a blast creating it, which is the main point of our existence in the first place. Be sure to keep an eye out for more from Kicksville in the very near future!

Enjoy!
Mike Stehr, Mayor

The Commissioner's Weekly Liner Notes

Episode 13 - Is That You, Miles?

This one's simple: straight-up high-energy drum 'n bass silliness. Also, like 'Southbound', this isn't a cover, but Anna's trumpet part weaves around and finally quotes a bit of a Miles Davis melody. Thus the song title....

The Music:
Tips and tricks: take an every-day vanilla sort of drum beat and run it through a plug-in called a buffer override. Instant weirdness! "My car won't start" is the track name of a loop on this song that we programmed and mangled using this technique (it's the first squiggly percussion bit you hear, just after the guitar fades in). And speaking of guitars fading in, here's more tips and tricks: guitar + flanger + delay hold + Filter Factory = very fucking cool.

Citizens:
Conrad St. Clair - keys, programming
Mike Stehr - keys
Lou Caldarola - drum kit
Chris Huntington - guitar
Beaker Parpovich - guitar
Anna Purnell - trumpet
